5 Tips To Make Your Space Your Vibe

Jan 20, 2022 | Education, Residential

Your home is an extension of your energy. If your home doesn’t feel like an authentic reflection of you, it’s time to make some changes! Luckily, there are many small things you can do on your own right now that can help make your space your vibe.

1. Get Rid of Clutter

This might seem like a no brainer, but it is often overlooked. Decluttering can have a positive effect on your mind, body and spirit. That’s why we often feel so accomplished after cleaning out the closet, rearranging furniture or tidying up the kitchen. A great way to get started is by purging the items you may no longer need and surrounding yourself with pieces that uplift you. Less is more!

See how we created a kitchen where everything can be in its place in the #RiseOverTheRiver project.

2. Add A Splash of Color

Colors evoke emotion. Think about colors that represent how you want to feel when you’re home. For example, the teal yellow represents tranquility and calm. While we wouldn’t suggest painting every wall teal, a splash here and there can do the trick. Spruce up your furniture and decor with things like an emerald sofa, lemon-colored throw or a citrus-colored lamp to bring feelings of well-being into your space. Consider an accent wall or even an accent ceiling as seen in our #CallItAFungalow project.

3. Let There Be Light!

When a space is filled with light, and especially with natural light, we tend to feel more balanced. While it may not be realistic to install a skylight into your space right now, it is possible to bring in more light by adding lamps and light fixtures wherever you feel things are a bit dull. Replacing dark curtains with light neutral colors allows your space to make the most of natural light even when you need some privacy. When using bright and light neutrals, you can create visual impact by layering interesting textures and patterns like we did for our #LivinFreeInTheD project.

Mirrors can be a great way to optimize natural light, too. Placing a mirror opposite to a window can help further brighten up and elongate your space.

4. Bring The Outdoors In

Plants not only enhance the overall appearance of a space, but can have a positive impact on your mental and physical health. Studies show plants boost moods, increase creativity, reduce stress, and eliminate air pollutants. If you’re not up for plant parenthood, have no fear! There are many plants that take minimal effort to keep alive such as succulents, aloe, lavender and snake plants.

5. Be Authentic

Don't worry about trends. Surround yourself with elements that are authentic to you. At the end of the day, you want to create a space that you actually enjoy spending time in. In #LifesGoodInTheWoods we helped this homeowner create a backyard sanctuary by incorporating her love for roses – a deep connection to her mother and the flower. The end result yielded a spot that surrounds her in personal meaning and connection, somewhere she can linger for hours, truly making this space a reflection of authentic self.

Engage all your senses by incorporating plenty of textures, scents, and significant pieces for a place you can feel grounded in day after day!
