Today we sat down with our clients, Ashley and Garret Mette, the owners of a newly re-designed lakeside master suite we like to refer to as “A New Nautical”. Both Ashley and Garret had their own preferences as well as goals for the space together, so we took the time to listen and work together to meet all expectations. The space had beautiful features including a mesmerizing view of the Walled Lake, and wooden beams across the room. However, the space also proposed a few obstacles that made our job a little more fun!
Hear from both of them as they explain their experience working with our Design Strategists to create an entirely new bedroom.
What caused you to seek out a Strategic Designer to help with your new build?
“Well, it can be hard hiring a new interior designer because, to be honest, they are all salespeople and so often they push for you to ‘buy, buy, buy’. But with Rachel, there was no pressure.
“She just makes you feel so comfortable. And heard.”
What did you envision for your room as you were laying out the plans?
“Well, first off, there was one GIANT sore spot in the room… we didn’t know what to do with it or how to hide it. And we had never thought of ANYTHING like a built-in that would hide it to that scale! It changed the entire room– it feels like our master bedroom now.”
“Also, I knew I wanted a clean, nice room so that I could focus. That was important. And this room definitely gave me that space”
“Our room now feels like an escape to decompress after working from home all day. It feels like our master bedroom now, it doesn’t feel like a Frankenstein put together space.” [laughing]
How did you combine your aesthetic preferences with your husband’s?
[Laughing]
“My husband and I disagreed on some stuff. Rachel came in and took what both of us wanted to change and put it together into one idea. It was wonderful. She took information from me and took information from him and was able to build a design that we both love! I mean, it’s so impressive”
“She really killed two birds with one stone in this project” (referring to creating a room that’s both functional and appealing)
“It was exactly what both of us wanted.”
What were some specific parts of the design process that you enjoyed the most?
“A huge game changer for us were the 3D Concepts. They helped us feel more confident to do the built-ins and take that dark blue color. It gave us the confidence we need to say ‘yes!’.
The process is great- you start out with an image of what you want it to be, and after the build takes place you get exactly what you wanted which isn’t always how it works out in the end.
You get to see the big picture, it’s not something that you string together over time. That's definitely one of the biggest benefits.”
How do you feel about your “New Nautical” theme?
“She nailed it.”
“She kept the nautical but also added who we are– which is a little bit more funky and eclectic!”
Was there anything that pleasantly surprised you after the build?
“There’s so much more open space than what we had before. Often Lily finds herself in there playing or drawing.
We also didn’t realize how much we needed those two lounge chairs at the end of our bed until now. They are so helpful for getting ready in the morning to even just having a coffee or putting on your shoes”
“We never thought it would be possible to add two more chairs to the area.”
Overall, how was your experience of working with Concetti?
“I really appreciated their balance of giving us some options, but not giving us too many options. That was really helpful.”
“I don’t see how we could have made that room what it was without Rachel’s input to see it all the way through.”
“Yes, there were no surprises at the end. The builder knew right off the bat that this is what we wanted, and so everyone was on the same page and there were no issues.”
