#GettinCityWithIt: Detroit’s Newest Sustainable Homes in Midtown

Feb 1, 2021 | updates

We are thrilled to work on a new build home in the Eco Homes community in Midtown! These eco-friendly homes feature the best in sustainable planning and design, featuring : solar panels on all roofs, drought-tolerant landscaping with rain barrels for runoff capture, energy-efficient windows, and doors, occupancy sensor lighting controls, dark sky compliant exterior lighting fixtures, tankless, condensing water heaters, dual flush toilets, and so much more.

This new model for residential development has been thoughtfully designed to promote a close-knit community perfect for young professionals, creatives, young families, and empty-nesters moving into the city. “The interesting architecture is thanks to the pro-bono involvement of the SmithGroup, Detroit’s oldest architecture firm better known for large projects like the new Mike Ilitch School of Business near Little Caesars Arena.

As Detroit natives, we are so excited to work on projects like these as part of the resurgence of cultural and community development in our beloved hometown. Our client, #GettinCityWithit, grew up in Detroit and moved to Wisconsin as part of his lively career as a developer. When he saw the growing resurgence in Detroit, he decided to move back and make a forever home in the Motor City. The low-maintenance Eco Homes development was perfect for his needs. Originally, He brought us on to help him reevaluate the spatial layout of his home to better suit his desires to entertain and relax. During the Co-Create process, we explored several floor plan options until we finally found the perfect layout that opened up sight-lines and included an oversized kitchen, comfortable lounge, and wet bar all on the first floor.

In phase two of our process, Personalize, we included Architectural Selections we were able to source legendary Detroit makers and artists to pay homage to Detroit within his space. We’ve partnered with some amazing Detroit makers to bring to life this incredible sustainable home, including:

– Andrew Ward with Line Studio Detroit

Detroit Wallpaper Company – Murals

Woodward Throwbacks reclaimed wood + custom doors

Regina Andrews for furnishings

Stay tuned for progress updates, including a final reveal early Summer 2021!
